Welcome

Erik

I am a Ph.D. candidate in Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Washington. I work with Zoran Popović and Sumit Gulwani and belong to the Center for Game Science. This fall, I will join Cornell University as an assistant professor in Computer Science with field membership in Information Science.

My research aims to make education more engaging, automated, and adaptive. I develop fully-automated tools that synthesize pragmatic, principled learning pathways for target concepts. I am a co-creator of two educational video games, Refraction and Treefrog Treasure, which have won major awards and attracted millions of players. I have also worked on large-scale studies of engagement in video games, visual data mining, character animation, and path planning.
