CSE Curriculum Revision: Documents for Faculty

The curriculum revision described on this page has not been formally approved and should therefore be considered a draft for informational purposes. There is a lot of background that cannot be concisely summarized here. If you have concerns or comments, please contact Dan Grossman. The information here is in a format that makes sense within the department; the official University forms and descriptions are different but equivalent.

This summary picture shows the new 300-level courses intended for students in the major. Notice they are not all required. We are not changing our non-major courses at this time. Picture was updated October 2009 to add the 332-to-333 co-req or pre-req.

Detailed course descriptions for the new courses (see above for what is required of whom):

In addition, EE Signal Conditioning (number to-be-determined) will be an alternative to EE215 and EE233 (see degree requirements below). Because the course description has been developed by EE, it is not publicly posted here. Contact Dan if you're interested.

Degree requirements

Students completing their first CSE 300-level course in Spring 2010 or later are under the new requirements:

Students completing their first CSE 300-level course in Spring 2009 or earlier are under the old requirements:

Students completing their first CSE 300-level course in Fall 2009 or Winter 2010 are under the transition requirements. These requirements are more flexible than either the old or the new requirements. Some adjustment to the Computer Engineering transition degree requirements may still be needed. The transition requirements may make more sense after reading the new requirements.

The degree requirements refer to various course lists, which are similar to but slightly changed from lists prior to the revision:

Prerequisites

The revision requires changing the prerequisites for almost every undergraduate course. This Excel spreadsheet summarizes the changes (blue represents modifications made in September/October after faculty feedback; some of the notes may be cryptic). The transition column is what the pre-reqs will becomes for the next couple of years until we have no more students who completed the pre-revision 3xx courses.
