Meeting with President of India, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, and his students
At Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi

The president, whose background is in aeronautical engineering, was also Professor of Technology and Societal Transformation at Anna University, Chennai. This meeting focused on how emerging technologies and computational neuroscience research could be used to help mentally-disabled children in India.

Two of the president's graduate students: Shiva Kumar on the left and George Athappilly on the right. At the time of the meeting, Shiva Kumar was developing a low-cost cochlear implant for the deaf while George was pursuing his goal of using ideas from bioengineering, neuroscience, and computing to help the mentally-disabled.
