I [Tom] took a few minutes to look through the UT Austin proposal. They are planning an 8 course sequence of required courses. It is mostly the same material we currently have, organized along the Stanford model of a sequence for programming, systems, and theory, with cross-links. They are on semesters, so that’s the equivalent of 12 quarters for us (including 142/143). The most radical thing they are planning is to drastically reduce the math requirements: one semester of calculus, followed by a CS-only one semester of linear algebra, and a CS-only one semester of prob&stat. They then add tracks at the 4xx level. They are also proposing to teach a special version of each of the 8 required courses to their honors students (they don’t have a restricted major).
