I generally planned 5 to 15 days in advance. I usually stuck to my plan, but occasional flexibility is necessary. Most hikers were more flexible than myself. I generally resupplied in stores. I used maildrops for equipment purposes, not food.

Numbers to the right are white-blaze miles (miles on the AT). I estimate an average of an additional 1/2 mile of hiking a day (for shelters, resupplies, etc.), but only progress miles count. Mileage is what I have written in my journal and may not be accurate.

I'm not sure how useful this page will be to others. Perhaps you can use it to get a sense of my average mileage in a particular region. If nothing else, it will answer your question, "Did you stay at such-and-such a place?"
