Sam Walton: Made in America

Sam Walton

Thoughts?

The simplicity that flows throughout this book gave me pure joy while reading it. From his grounded personal values to the straightforward core business strategies behind Walmart's success, Sam walton shows that that simplicity is almost always at the core of big changes. Part of the reason that I've decided to read books by authors who have actually done the job they're describing, whether leading a major scientific quest or building a blockbuster business, is that their success is often driven by simple things and ideas that might be hidden to external observers. Things like the biggest tide display or the mattress sales are great examples of this, which I'm pretty sure an external author analyzing Walmart's success would have missed. Sam Walton visiting stores everywhere he went, even on family vacations, highlights another big lesson: always be curious and get ideas from your peers.
