The Hard Thing About Hard Things

The Hard Thing About Hard Things

Ben Horowitz

Thoughts?

I loved every minute of it. After a long break from audiobooks, this one made the commute much more enjoyable.

In the opening chapters Ben talks about all the horrible experiences he had in his startup journey and how he had to make though decisions.

All the practical advice about running a startup was very insightful and Ben digs into the all the messy details of running a startup even things like how to lay off people in a way that is least harmful -- it's crazy they had to do it multiple times.

The peace time/war time CEO was also quite thought provoking and the fact that so many skills that CEOs have to develop are against human nature in general. And you have to make peace with it.

Also the story about the football coach was quite memorable. Some of their best players were dealing with injuries and he was worrying about how to coach them team. And the advice he got? Don't be so anxious cause no one cares, just coach the team.

I liked the ending too. Embrace the struggle.
